Sergeant Lake County Major Crime Task Force’s Christopher Cowelly said police recovered a rifle from the scene About the fatal shooting of 4th of July Parade in Highland Park, Illinois.
Coveli said he could not provide details about where the gun was found, but it appeared that the shooter was “shooting from the roof” but did not know specifically which roof.
The officer said the suspect is not in custody, adding that it is a very active scene and that at this time, the shooting appears to be “completely random”. He also said that at this point in the investigation, police believe there was only one shooter.
Officials said there is a perimeter around the city and residents are urged to stay indoors. They also said that it does not appear that the suspect has been barricaded anywhere and they are trying to identify the shooter.
