List of fatal military plane crashes in India in recent years

New Delhi: The crash of an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter carrying the Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat The Nilgiris near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu once again brings to the fore the serious issue of military plane crashes in India that have caused many deaths in recent years.

Earlier last week, the central government informed Parliament that seven IAF aircraft have crashed in the last two years.

“A total of seven Air Force aircraft have crashed in the last two years, including the Mirage 2000, which recently crashed in Madhya Pradesh,” Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt said in the Lok Sabha.

“Steps taken by the government to avoid such incidents in future include strengthening of the Aerospace Safety Organization, maintaining a database of accidents and incidents, improving training methodology and increasing the use of simulators,” he said.

Earlier in July 2019, the then Minister of State for Defense Shripad Naik presented the figures from 2014 to 2019 in Parliament.

He informed that in the five years from 2014-15 to 2018-19, there have been more than 10 accidents in every alternate year, a total of 46 personnel died in defense air accidents from 2014-15 to July 2019.

• A MiG 21 Bison aircraft crashed while landing in Suratgarh, Rajasthan on January 5, 2021.
• Earlier in February 2019, two aircraft of IAF’s aerobatic team Surya Kiran crashed after hitting each other in the air, killing one pilot and injuring two, during a rehearsal for the Aero India show. exited safely during
