Liquor, narcotics worth Rs 40 crore seized in Punjab after Model Code of Conduct came into force

Enforcement teams have so far seized liquor, narcotics and unaccounted cash worth Rs 40.31 crore since the Model Code of Conduct came into force in Punjab. An election official gave this information on Saturday.

The Election Commission had announced the election schedule for elections in Punjab and four other states on January 8, and these collections were made till January 14.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Dr S Karuna Raju said on Saturday that the value of confiscated liquor has been estimated at 2.72 lakh liters worth Rs 81 lakh.

Similarly, the Enforcement Wing has also seized narcotics worth Rs 38.93 crore, besides unaccounted Rs 14 lakh in cash, he said.

“In addition, 2,222 people have been identified as possible sources of trouble. Of these, preventive action has already been initiated against 894 people, while appropriate action will be taken against the rest.

He said 2,064 cases of non-bailable warrants have been executed.

Enforcement teams have removed 53,610 advertising and campaign materials from public properties and 14,911 from private properties.

Raju said that so far 3,23,102 licensed weapons have been deposited and 20 unlicensed weapons have been confiscated.

He also informed that 84.3 per cent personnel deployed for election duty have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, out of which 49.9 per cent employees have been fully vaccinated.

Voting for 117 assembly seats will be held on February 14 and counting will be done on March 10.
