Messi scored twice in the final and broke several records, while he ultimately missed out on the Golden Boot kilian mbappe, whose hat-trick almost ruined Argentina’s party in Qatar. Messi once again played a key role for his country throughout the tournament. Messi, playing in his final World Cup, finally won the trophy that had eluded him for so long during his illustrious career.

Argentina won the shoot-out 4–2 after Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick ended the game level at 3–3 after extra time.
Gonzalo Montiel scored the decisive penalty to give Argentina their third World Cup and prevent France from becoming the first team in 60 years to retain the trophy.
Messi and Mbappe both scored in the shoot-out, but kingsley commonThe next kick was saved for France and Aurélien Tchoumeny then fired wide.
It was the second time in five World Cups that France lost the final on penalties, following their defeat to Italy in 2006.
The win allowed Messi, at the age of 35, to wrap up his illustrious career by emulating the great diego Maradona.
Maradona played a key role in Argentina’s last World Cup victory, way back in 1986.
