Twitter boss Elon Musk on Friday announced Linda Yacarino as the new CEO of the micro-blogging social media platform. Musk wrote on Twitter, “I’m excited to welcome Linda Yacarino as the new CEO of Twitter!”

“@LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I will focus on product design and new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into the X, everything app.”

Earlier in the day, Musk tweeted, “Excited to announce that I have hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will start in approximately 6 weeks! My role will be Executive Chairman and CTO, Product, Software There will be transitions to oversee. And Sysops.”

Yaccarino has been associated with NBCUniversal for 12 years

Yacarino has worked at NBCUniversal for nearly 12 years — his team has generated more than $100 billion in advertising sales since 2011, his company bio notes.

According to LinkedIn, Yacarino previously served as NBC’s president for advertising and client partnerships and as president of cable entertainment and digital advertising sales. Prior to his time with NBC, Yacarino worked for nearly two decades at global entertainment company Turner.

Yacarino interviewed Musk on a Miami stage last month in front of hundreds of advertisers.

Wooing advertisers is crucial for Musk and Twitter in the early months following their acquisition of the social media platform, fearing damage to their brands in the ensuing chaos.

Musk said in late April that advertisers had returned, but did not provide details.

Mark DiMassimo, founder and creative head of advertising agency Digo, said Yacarino could help restore advertisers’ trust in Twitter.

He added that Yacarino successfully integrated and digitized advertising sales at Comcast and NBC — and his track record of cross-selling ads across different platforms could appeal to Musk as he looks to transform Twitter from a social media company into a larger media platform. tries to change.

DiMassimo said, “If anyone can translate the Musk vision into a marketer’s advantage he will be able to do it.”

“Even though there is skepticism and all marketers live in a ‘show me’ position with respect to Twitter right now, if it does indeed go to Twitter it is a mighty reassuring move.” Musk has long insisted that he is not the permanent CEO of the company. The Tesla billionaire said in a tweet on Thursday that his role would transition to Twitter’s executive chairman and chief technology officer.
