Like He’s Never Left: Twitter Can’t Keep Calm As Cristiano Ronaldo Scores On Manchester United Return

Cristiano Ronaldo made his second Manchester United debut with a goal in the last minutes of the first half. Mason Greenwood struck with his left foot towards the goal that Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman failed to catch, the ball fell on Ronaldo’s path and the 36-year-old reopened his Premier League account with a simple tap.

It was Cristiano Ronaldo’s 119th Manchester United goal and his first in 12 years.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was given a hero’s welcome before kick-off when he returned to Old Trafford after securing a move from Juventus last month.

The Portuguese made a name for himself as a world star in the six years at United between 2003 and 2009, during which he won the Champions League, three Premier League titles and was crowned the best player in the world for the first time.

Ronaldo also received great enthusiasm for every goal he scored in practice, but it was far from plain sailing for United in the first 45 minutes against the Magpies.

Manchester United led Newcastle United 1-0 at the end of the first half.
