‘Like a tracer bullet’: Kohli emulates Shastri’s commentary style as former coach wishes him all the best for 100th Test – watch

The game of cricket gets more exciting when it is seen from Ravi Shastri’s commentary. His way of describing the on-field proceedings brought the game to life for those who are watching it on TV sets. ‘The ball goes like a tracer bullet’ and ‘Dhoni finishes in style. India won the World Cup after 28 years…’ are some of the words spoken by him on air that remain fresh in the memory of every cricket lover.

His voice was remembered by fans during his tenure as the head coach of Team India. However, ahead of Virat Kohli’s 100 Tests on Friday, Shastri came up with a video in which he wished to be a commentator in the old fashioned way.

Shastri also asked the former India captain to accept the ‘tracer bullet’ challenge and to everyone’s surprise Kohli accepted it and gave it a shot.

“100 Reasons to Celebrate Test Match No. 100. It’s been a great century. It’s good to see a lot of it ringside. Enjoy this one winner thru the cover… @imVkohli #VK100,” read the caption of Shastri’s tweet.

The association of Kohli and Shastri as former India coach and captain saw some remarkable moments in Indian cricket history. The biggest highlight of this association was India’s victories in Australia in 2018 and 2021.

Friday’s Test against Sri Lanka is also Kohli’s first appearance in Tests after relinquishing the captaincy after India’s 2-1 loss to South Africa in January. Although his return with the bat (no century since November 2019) has invited concern and criticism alike, there is no doubt that Kohli has been the backbone of India’s batting for a very long time.

Kohli’s historic 100th Test also marks the beginning of Rohit Sharma’s tenure as India’s Test captain. The hosts have not been in the losing side in home Tests since their 2-1 loss to England in 2012 and will be hoping to increase their momentum against the visiting Sri Lankan side.
