Light rain falls in Delhi, Noida, Gzb, IMD predicts more rain during the day

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continued to lash parts of Delhi-NCR on Wednesday (July 13, 2022) with more rain forecast for the day. Several parts of the national capital, Noida, Ghaziabad received rain and brought further respite from the sultry weather conditions. The IMD issued a yellow alert in the morning warning of moderate rain or thundershowers in some areas of the city. Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung Observatory recorded 2.1 mm of rain in the 24 hours ended at 8:30 am on Wednesday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 36 degree Celsius.

“Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of South Delhi (Ayanagar, Deramandi), North-Delhi (Narela, Alipur, Burari, Karawal Nagar), NCR ( Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida , Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh) Sonipat, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad, Hodal (Haryana), Kandhla, Chandpur, Baraut, Bagpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahar (UP) Bhiwari, Tizara, Khairthal, Alwar (Rajasthan) during the next 2 hours,” the IMD said in a weather bulletin at 8:10 AM.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rain dropped the mercury in Delhi The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.3 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. The maximum temperature on Monday was 36.9 degree Celsius. However, due to rain, traffic jams and water-logging occurred in some parts of the capital, including Burari and Jasola. Water-logging also disrupted the flow of traffic in central Delhi.

The Delhi Municipal Corporation said it has received complaints of waterlogging from residents of Pitampura, Rithala, Bijwasan and Shivaji Vihar. At least 19 complaints of uprooting of trees have been received from several areas, including Rajouri Garden, West Punjabi Bagh, Ashok Nagar, Dwarka, Jahangirpuri and Kingsway Camp, officials said.

Delhi received its first monsoon rain on the morning of June 30, which provided much relief from the scorching heat. After Monsoon Trough, the rains are forecast to increase over North India from 18th July, which is presently south of Delhi, which has shifted northwards.
