On February 5, various Sikh organizations blocked the national highway in Faridkot along with the relatives of the Behbal Kalan police firing victim.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday appealed to protesters to lift the blockade on the Bathinda-Amritsar National Highway in Faridkot and assured justice in the eight-year-old sacrilege incident and subsequent police firing.

On 5 February, various Sikh organizations along with the family members of the Behbal Kalan police firing victim blocked the national highway in Faridkot indefinitely, demanding justice in the 2015 incidents.

Mann said that the commuters are facing problems due to the jam.

The Punjab government is fully committed to provide justice in the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan sacrilege cases. I appeal to the public (protestors) to open the national highway at Behbal Kalan so that people are not inconvenienced,” he said in a tweet in Punjabi.

“It is the responsibility and duty of the government to ensure speedy justice by punishing the guilty,” he said.

Under the banner of ‘Bedbi Insaaf Morcha’ led by Krishna Bhagwan’s son Sukhraj Singh, the protesters accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of not ensuring justice in the case.

Singh was protesting at Behbal Kalan since December 16, 2021. There were incidents related to theft of a ‘bir’ (copy) of the Guru Granth Sahib, hand-written holy posters and tearing of pages of the holy book at Bargari in Faridkot. In 2015.

These incidents triggered protests, during which two people – Gurjit Singh and Krishna Bhagwan Singh – were killed in Behbal Kalan and some were injured in police firing in Kotkapura.
