Ranchi: Ranchi’s Sadar Hospital did emergency on Thursday. Surgery on an 85-year-old man and had a portion of his intestine removed after he developed gangrene. Presently the condition of the patient is stable and he is still recovering and he is out of danger.
The surgery, which lasted for three hours, was led by the general surgeon. Dr. Ajit Kumar, who performed the operation along with anesthetist Dr Alakh Narayan Mishra.
Aditya Nath Pathak had come to the hospital on Tuesday with a complaint of bowel obstruction and Constipation. When his pain did not subside for 10 consecutive days, he was referred from Palamu to Ranchi.
Speaking to TOI, Dr. Ajit said, “After the initial investigation, I suspected that his abdomen was swollen. So I suggested some pathological tests and got him admitted to the hospital.
The CT scan revealed that the patient has swollen abdomen. “The reports confirmed the presence of a large bowel obstruction and it was becoming gangrenous. We immediately decided to operate on him as it turned out to be life-threatening,” said Dr Ajit.
The doctors removed one and a half feet of the infected intestine, which was followed by a colostomy.
“Had we not had the surgery, the gangrene would have spread throughout the body,” Dr Ajit said.
Ranchi District Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr Sabyasachi Mandal congratulated the team and said: “This is the first time that our doctors have sigmoid volvulus surgery I would like to congratulate all the doctors who have successfully managed limited resources and we will continue to support them so that such surgeries continue to happen.
Meanwhile, Dr Ajit is the same doctor who had performed the first laparoscopic surgery at Ranchi District Hospital earlier this year and according to hospital sources, he had to bring extra equipment from outside to conduct that surgery as the hospital did not have a hospital. . necessary equipment.
