LG Sinha Says His Admin Steering Change in Socio-economic Landscape of J-K with Citizen’s Participation

Speaking in his monthly “Awaam Ki Awaaz” radio programme, Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration with citizens’ participation is bringing about a change in the socio-economic scenario of the Union Territory.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday shared inspiring stories of change-makers and highlighted his administration’s efforts to realize the “true development potential” of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking in his monthly “Awaam Ki Awaaz” radio programme, he said the Jammu and Kashmir administration is bringing about a change in the socio-economic scenario of the Union Territory with the participation of citizens.

The Lt Governor said, “Our collective endeavor is to create a more progressive, growth oriented and aspirational society and to lay a strong foundation for the journey of the next 25 years.”

Sinha said that the Kashmir division is witnessing a ‘yellow revolution’, which has registered a significant increase in oilseed crops.

“There will be additional opportunities for oil extraction and value addition and hence more entrepreneurial opportunities for the people,” the Lt Governor said.

As per an estimate, he said that this year alone Kashmir would produce mustard oil worth Rs 800 crore. The Lieutenant Governor said, “Jammu and Kashmir will move towards self-sufficiency in the production of mustard oil.”

Congratulating the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the GI-tagging of the famous Basholi painting, he said that it is an important milestone in preserving and promoting the artistic and cultural heritage of the Union Territory.

Basohli Painting has become the first independent GI-tagged product of the Jammu region. This will give customers access to authentic produce and give a huge boost to the local economy.”

The Lt Governor shared the inspiring journey of self-made women entrepreneurs, Shalini Khokhar from Rajouri and Shamshada Begum from Pattan. “With commitment, conviction and courage, they are making a significant contribution to a modern, strong and self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir.” Sinha also appreciated the efforts of progressive farmers in improving agricultural productivity and encouraging adoption of new agricultural techniques.

The Lt Governor lauded the “Plastic Do and Sona Lo” campaign launched by Farooq Ahmed Gani, Sarpanch of Sadivara village in Anantnag, to convert Swachh Abhiyan into public participation and fulfill the dream of a clean India.

He called upon the PRI representatives to replicate this noble initiative and ensure community participation in the cleanliness drive. “Youth clubs also have an important role to play in promoting the Swachhta campaign.” The Lt Governor congratulated Sarpanch, Panch and district administration of Falmarg, Sira Gram Panchayat of Udhampur, Kupwara Fatehpora of Baramulla for receiving awards in different categories in the National Panchayat. Award 2023.

Sinha appreciated the work of Sonia Verma of Gurah Brahmana village of Akhnoor on the outskirts of Jammu for planting more than 60,000 saplings. He asked the citizens to follow this inspiring example of environmental consciousness.

Sharing the suggestions of Priya Verma from Reasi on women-specific haats, the Lt Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to promote women-led enterprises.

“Women entrepreneurs are the backbone of J&K’s economy and we have taken appropriate steps for capacity building, easy access to credit and marketing linkages,” he said.
