Leena Manimekalai’s plea to transfer Susie Ganesan’s defamation case dismissed

The court has dismissed writer-director Leena Manimekalai’s plea seeking transfer of the defamation suit filed by Susi Ganesan. The defamation case against Leena came after she alleged in a social media post that Susie Ganesan had harassed her.

Susie had earlier said that Manimekalai’s allegations were baseless. The director further said that the sole purpose of these allegations was to malign his name and reputation in the industry. Passing an interim order on Susie’s defamation petition, the magistrate ordered the Regional Passport Authority to confiscate Leena’s passport. Leena then approached the Madras High Court to get her passport issued.

Susie then approached the Supreme Court, which directed the Saidapet Magistrate Court to complete the trial within four months. Leena then moved the Principal Sessions Court to transfer the case to another magistrate. In her petition, Leena alleged that the present magistrate had a biased attitude.

In response to this allegation, Susie’s lawyer Alexis Sudhakar argued that the case was being dragged on for only three years. According to him, the present petition has been filed only to delay the proceedings.

Chief Sessions Judge S. Ali has rejected Leena’s plea. According to the Principal Sessions Judge, the allegations against Leena’s Saidapet Magistrate Court were baseless.

The Chief Sessions Judge said that the Supreme Court had directed the magistrate to complete the trial in four months. According to the judge, the trial is still in its final stages and hence the petition for transfer cannot be guaranteed.

Saidapet Magistrate Court has to complete the trial by the month of April.

Leena had earlier said that actors Siddharth and Amala Paul supported her. According to Leena, both these actors were also harassed by Susie. Leena said she also harassed journalists and news editors who shared her tweets.
