Meanwhile, the Bar Council of UP has repeatedly asked the Elders Committee to submit its report to the Bar Council as well as the Observer. But, according to Devendra Mishra, the observer sent by the UP Bar Council to monitor the election, no report has come so far.
Talking to Times of India, Mishra said, ‘I thanked God when I reached home last night. I had never imagined that such practices are being followed in the election of the most educated advocates.
Mishra said that he was seeking the report since Friday evening but the election steering committee has not sent the report yet.
He had received a PDF file a few minutes back, in which he had tried to blur the incident. “The Chairman of the Bar Council and others were waiting for the names of advocates involved in shoot outs and illegal activities during voting so that they could be suspended or denied their licences. But, no name has been given yet,” said Mishra, who is also a member of the Bar Council.
Accusing the Elders Committee, he said that they have not yet sent the CCTV footage. “Once the footage is found, the advocates involved can be easily identified and the Bar Council will take action against them,” he said.
He said that as per the oral report, the committee had held one candidate each for the post of chairman and secretary. But he did not name anyone.
Though apparently the Kanpur court complex was peaceful on Saturday, there were apprehensions among various groups of advocates. The subject of discussion was the firing in the court premises and the death of a lawyer. Some blamed student union politics among the new advocates, while some claimed that hooliganism had begun on the court premises.
