Latest prices of petrol, diesel today: Know how much you will have to spend for fuel

Petrol, Diesel Price Today: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai on March 21, showed a notification issued by state-owned fuel retailers. Petrol prices in cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore will remain stable today despite oil prices remaining high. However, hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, coupled with continued demand, are expected to keep global crude oil prices up for some more time. India imports more than 80 percent of its oil requirement. It is feared that the war will soon spread to India’s retail fuel prices. Earlier experts believed that the geopolitical crisis would push up India’s domestic prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 15-22 per litre. It was also expected that the cut in excise duty may reduce the impact on petrol and diesel prices, but only to an extent.

In Mumbai, on November 4, the price of petrol was reduced to Rs 109.98 per liter and that of diesel to Rs 94.14 per liter.

Delhi had reduced the local sales tax, or value-added tax (VAT) on petrol from 30 to 19.4 per cent with effect from midnight of December 1, bringing down the price of petrol by about Rs 8 to Rs 95.41 per litre. Diesel is Rs 86.67 per litre.

Petrol and diesel prices in Kolkata stood at Rs 104.67 and Rs 89.79 respectively. Petrol in Chennai is being sold for Rs 101.40 and diesel for Rs 91.43.

Petrol in Noida sold for Rs 95.51 per liter and diesel at Rs 87.01 per liter. Petrol in Lucknow costs Rs 95.28 and Diesel costs Rs 86.80 per litre. Petrol in Jaipur costs Rs 107.06 per liter and diesel costs Rs 90.70 per liter. Petrol in Gurugram is priced at Rs 95.59 per liter and Diesel at Rs 86.81 per liter.

On March 20, the price of diesel sold to bulk users was increased by about Rs 25 per liter, in line with a nearly 40 per cent increase in international oil prices.

Oil prices are moving upwards in the war

Oil prices ditched by Ukrainian forces against heavy Russian strikes jumped $2 on Monday, while major oil producers reported they were struggling to produce their allotted quotas under a supply deal. Brent crude futures climbed $1.96, or 1.8 percent, to $109.89 a barrel by 0039 GMT, up from 1.2 percent last Friday. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose $2.09, or 2 per cent, to $106.79, having jumped 1.7 per cent last Friday.

Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Irina Vershchuk, said on Monday that as prices rose, there was no chance the country’s forces would surrender in the besieged eastern port city of Mariupol. With the conflict showing signs of easing, attention returned to whether the market would be able to replace sanctions-hit Russian barrels. Over the past eight trading sessions, Brent oil has been trading as high as $139 per barrel and low at $98 – a spread of over $40.
