New Delhi: Singer Lata Mangeshkar was cremated with full state honors at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Mumbai to pay his last respects to the veteran.
Along with PM Modi, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, state minister Aaditya Thackeray, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, actors Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan, lyricist Javed Akhtar, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and MNS chief Raj Thackeray paid. Tribute to the departed soul at Shivaji Park.
Maharashtra’s Union minister was also present at the funeral ceremony, which was held in an open ground to pay tribute to the fans. Lata’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar lit the pyre.
On Sunday morning, the singing legend passed away at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

The mortal remains of the singer, wrapped in the national flag, were taken in a truck from his residence in south Mumbai to Shivaji Park in Dadar on Sunday evening for the last rites.
A large number of people also thronged the streets from where 92-year-old Madhurya Rani had left on her last journey.
His body was kept at his house for the respect of the people.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, noted actor Anupam Kher, lyricist Javed Akhtar and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali were among those who paid tributes to Lata Mangeshkar at her residence on Pedder Road in south Mumbai, about 8 km from Shivaji Park, before the body. Gave. Took for funeral.
Popularly known as Lata Didi, the famous singer was hospitalized for more than 28 days. She was on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and breathed her last at 8:12 am today, news agency PTI quoted hospital officials as saying.
Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital on the intervening night of January 8 and 9 after she developed symptoms of COVID-19 and pneumonia.
N Santhanam, chief executive officer of Breach Candy Hospital, said, “She came and got admitted as a COVID patient. Was treated for COVID, but developed post-COVID complications. Because of that, he passed away.”

Declaration of two-day national mourning, Maharashtra government declared public holiday
Earlier, the central government announced that a two-day national mourning would be observed in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar. During state mourning, the national flag remains at half-mast across India, and there are no official entertainment events.
The Maharashtra government on Monday declared a public holiday and a day of mourning in honor of Madhurya Rani. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has given information about a day of mourning and a public holiday.
The West Bengal government has also announced a half-day holiday tomorrow in honor of the legendary singer.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced to play songs of Bharat Ratna awardee at every public place, government establishment and traffic signal for the next 15 days.
Lata Mangeshkar was proudly known as ‘Bharat Nightingale’ and ‘Queen of Melody’. He has more than 30,000 songs to his name in a career spanning over seven decades. He has songs in about 36 languages. The whole country is in mourning on his death.
