Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92. She breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where she was admitted for the last 28 days. Dr Pratat Samdani, the veteran singer’s doctor, released a statement revealing that Lata didi passed away due to multiple organ failure. He tweeted, ‘It is being informed with great sadness that Lata Mangeshkar is passing away at 8:12 am. He has died due to multi-organ failure after being hospitalized for more than 28 days for COVID19. While the nation is paying tribute and remembering the Nightingale of India, his songs will always be with us.

During her career spanning nearly 8 decades, Lata Mangeshkar was also honored with several awards for her contribution to the Indian music industry. However, few people know that the legendary singer once refused to accept the Filmfare Award.
Yes, you read it right. In 1958, Lata Mangeshkar was nominated for Best Playback Singer for her song ‘Aaj Re Pardesi’. However, he refused to accept Filmfare and objected to it being designed in the shape of a woman who had no clothes on. Thereafter, the organizers wrapped the award with a cloth and presented it.
Talking about Lata Mangeshkar’s awards, she was the recipient of three National Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards and others. In 1989, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In 2001, Lata Didi was also awarded India’s highest civilian award – Bharat Ratna. He was also honored with Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Maharashtra Bhushan Award, NTR National Award and ANR National Award.
Meanwhile, the last rites of Lata Mangeshkar will be performed this evening at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. His last rites will be performed with full state honours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other dignitaries will pay their last respects to the legendary singer.
