The frequent landslides in Kinnaur district due to accidents and loss of life and property have increased the concern. Now there is a need to think afresh on how to stop this loss. For this, a letter has been written by the district administration to the Geological Survey of India, ie Geological Survey of India.

Let us inform that on July 27, 9 people died due to slipping of rocks in Batseri of Kinnaur district. After this, on August 11, 28 people died in a landslide accident in Nigulsari. Both these are big accidents, which have shook Himachal. Now, showing seriousness on this, the administration has started trying to find the reason behind them. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur has written a letter to the Geological Survey of India.

In his letter, the Deputy Commissioner has urged to find out the reason for the possible landslides and year-round floods, melting of glaciers at 6 vulnerable places in the district. He has demanded that a team of experts should be sent here to conduct a study, so that in time, concrete steps can be taken to avoid such incidents in future. Although the team of experts has visited Nigulsari after the letter of the district administration, but experts are yet to reach at six other places.

Landslides happen in other places including Pagal Nala
Deputy Commissioner Kinnaur Abid Hussain Sadiq wrote a letter to the Geological Survey of India for the reasons for year after year landslides near Pagal Nala, Hot water near Tapri, Kharogala Nala in Batseri, near Glacier in Rali, Ruturang in Kupa and Ribba Nala. Deputy Commissioner Kinnaur has written in the letter that after the report of expert scientists, the government and administration can reduce the loss of life and property due to possible landslides occurring at these places. Will make an action plan to do that which is very much needed.

Government should think again before setting up big projects
The ever-increasing natural calamities in Kinnaur district are being seen not only by linking the changes in the weather patterns. Due to climate change, the rain in Kinnaur district and huge power projects and wild construction activities being built in the district is also a big reason, which has changed the situation here. Considering the geographical structure of Kinnaur and its vulnerability to earthquakes, the government should reconsider the establishment of large power projects.
