Landslide after heavy rains, 150 people stranded in Uttarakhand

Around 150 people are stranded due to landslides triggered by heavy rains on the Tanakpur-Ghat National Highway in Champawat district of Uttarakhand. an officer gave this information on Wednesday.

District Disaster Management Officer Manoj Pandey said that till late Tuesday night, traffic remained disrupted at Vishram Ghat on the highway, so the district administration made arrangements for the stay of the people trapped in Champawat.

On Tuesday, landslides occurred at eight places on the highway, leaving debris on the road. Though the debris had been cleared at seven places by Tuesday evening, the rocks and boulders at Vishramghat could not be cleared till midnight, Mr. Pandey said.

He said that the effort to clear the debris on the road at Vishramghat was resumed on Wednesday morning with the help of earth moving machines and loaders.

He said that some stranded people, who were going to Haldwani, were being sent there via Devidhura.
