Land-For-Jobs Scam: CBI To Question Lalu Yadav Soon

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has said that the central agency can interrogate former Bihar Chief Minister and Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the land for job case.

The charge sheet states that during investigation, it was found that the accused conspired with the then General Manager of Central Railway and CPO of Central Railway and appointed persons in their name or their close relatives in lieu of land.

The land was acquired at a price lower than the prevailing circle rate and much lower than the market rate. It was also alleged that the candidates used false TCs and submitted false attested documents to the Ministry of Railways, the CBI statement said.

The alleged scam took place between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister. Apart from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, the name of the then Railway General Manager is also included in the charge sheet.

The CBI said that the investigation revealed that the candidates were considered without the need of any substitute for their appointment and there was no urgency for their appointment which was one of the main criteria behind the appointment of substitutes and they were not approved. Joined his duties much later than he was appointed and later regularized.

Many discrepancies were found in the application forms and attached documents of the candidates due to which the applications should not have been processed and their appointment should not have been approved but it was done.

Further, in most of the cases, the candidates joined their jobs in their respective divisions on much later dates, which defeated the purpose of appointment of officiating and in some cases, the candidates did not appear for their medical examination under the category required for their appointment. could not pass were made and subsequently, those posts were considered and appointed where the lower/lower medical category was required, the CBI said.

Recently, on February 27, taking cognizance of the CBI’s charge sheet, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court had issued summons against Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi and 14 others in the alleged land-for-job case. (ANI)
