Lal Salaam Box Office Collection Day 1: Rajinikanth starrer Lal Salaam finally hit theatres on Friday and received an overwhelming response. However, despite getting positive reviews from all, the film registered a decent start at the box office in India. As reported by Sacnilk.com, Lal Salaam earned Rs 4.30 crore nett at the box office on its opening day. Reportedly, the film had an overall occupancy of 30.35 per cent in Tamil areas, whereas in Puducherry, it was the highest at 39.25 per cent.

Released on February 9, Lal Salaam is a sports drama featuring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles, with Rajinikanth making an extended cameo appearance. It is directed by Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The film was initially supposed to be released during the Pongal festival in January. However, it was later postponed to February.

On Friday, several social media users took to their respective X handles and praised the film. Superstar Rajinikanth dominated most of the posts with netizens appreciating his extended cameo appearance. Others also thanked Aishwarya for raising an important issue with her movie. Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan also called the film “blockbuster”.

News18 Showsha’s review of Lal Salaam reads, “At the core of Lal Salaam lies the idea reaffirming how the majority of Indian Muslims truly are – peace-loving and nationalistic. Delivering some of these powerful messages are a well-chosen cast, with Rajinikanth playing the role of an aged father who wants his cricketer son to represent India in world-class cricket.”

“The narrative moves non-linearly, telling the story of a small town in western Tamil Nadu whacked by communal tensions stoked by a few politicians to corner vote banks. Written and directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, who returns to the craft after nine years, the movie struggles, however, with weaving a cohesive story. While the convoluted screenplay does help build suspense, it takes away any opportunity for audiences to associate with the lead characters – be it Thirunavukkarasu (Vishnu Vishal) and Samsudheen (Vikranth) who are at loggerheads, or the other peripheral actors whose lives are influenced by the conflict,” it added.
