UPSC has been tasked with filling 244 posts in line with their established recruitment guidelines (Representational image).

The Lieutenant Governor has ordered that adequate financial arrangements should be made for these 244 appointments at Level-12 of the Pay Matrix.

Raj Niwas officials said on Wednesday that Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the creation of 244 additional posts of principals in government schools in Delhi.

However, a statement from the office of Education The minister alleged that Saxena himself had abolished 244 posts of principals, which were lying vacant for more than five years, in February.

“Instead of answering why these posts remained vacant for more than five years, when the services were under his unconstitutional control all these years, he is now claiming to have done something which had lapsed because of his inaction it said.

Saxena had also approved the revival of 126 posts in February.

Officials said Saxena had then asked the Education Department to submit a proposal for creation of 244 additional posts of principals after a comprehensive study by the Department of Administrative Reforms in consultation with the Services Department.

The Lt Governor had also directed to ensure and make suitable financial provision for these 244 posts in Level-12 of the Pay Matrix.

These posts will now be forwarded to the Union Public Service Commission for filling up as per their prescribed recruitment rules.

In its statement, the education minister’s office said, “The lieutenant governor is again being selective and dishonest in appropriating credit for solving a problem he created in the first place.” In February, he, using an office memorandum dated April 12, 2017, abolished 244 posts of principals that had been vacant for more than five years.

The statement further alleged, “From February till now, he wasted time in conducting a so-called ‘extensive study’ of Education Department officials to determine whether these posts were actually needed or not.” And now (he) has restored the 244 posts which existed earlier and were abolished by him only.
