Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Class 1 Admission Criteria 2022-23 sets the minimum age of a child to be six years. As reported by ANI, a petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking a direction to KVS to revise the admission criteria and make it five years instead of six in 2022-23.
The petition states that prior to the academic year 2022-23, the minimum age of admission for class 1 in KVS was 5 years as on March 31 of the year of admission. It states that the entry criteria are arbitrary, discriminatory, unjust and unfair. It also violates the fundamental right of the petitioner to education, as read under Articles 14, 21 and 21-A of the Constitution of India, along with the provisions of the Delhi School Education Act, 1973 and the Children’s Free and Compulsory Education Act . , 2009, it added.

The petitioner, a child through his father Pawan Kumar, submitted that he would be more than five years of age as on March 31, 2022. She wanted to apply for class 1 admission in KVS this year, but on February 24, 2022, the schools made the changes. in the minimum age criteria just 4 days before the commencement of the admission process. She said that she was shocked to learn that she has been made ineligible to apply for class I in the academic year 2022-23.
“As per the mandate of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the entry age for class I has been revised to 6 plus years with effect from the academic session 2022-23,” the petition said in the KVS admission guidelines. NEP 2020, however, has not made any changes and has not disturbed the status quo. The petitioner claimed that the change in admission criteria has been invented by KVS.

Advocates Ashok Agrawal and Kumar Utkarsh, who filed the petition for the petitioner, further submitted that after going through the admission criteria 2022-23 of the respondent KVS, the petitioner sent a legal notice to KVS on February 27 but no response has been received so far.
