Kupwara encounter: Authorities order probe into North Kashmir incident

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday ordered a probe into the June 19 encounter between terrorists and security forces in which four militants, including one arrested earlier, were killed. The encounter took place at Chandigam in Lolab area of ​​North Kashmir district.

According to an official spokesperson, Lolab Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has been appointed as the Investigating Officer to conduct a magisterial inquiry under Section 176 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the anti-terrorist operation in Chandigam.

“The public is hereby informed that if anyone has any information regarding the subject, he may submit his statement to the office of the SDM, Lolab within seven days from the date of publication of this notice or can register.” spokesman said.

Police said that on the basis of information given by arrested terrorist Shaukat Ahmed Sheikh, security forces launched a search operation in the forest area of ​​Chandigam. During a search of a terrorist hideout, the militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire on the search party, which was retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter.

One terrorist was killed in the initial encounter, while the arrested militant, who was leading the search party, also got trapped. A total of four terrorists, including Sheikh, were killed in the encounter.
