Even after being a part of several shows like ‘Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke’ and ‘Dastaan-E-Mohabbat Salim Anarkali’, Shaheer says he never gave up the role of Dev. “When I got the call for season three, my first reaction was to call mom (Supriya) and tell her that she has to do it. I thought it was my right to ask her, something that Dev Ishwari would do. I’ve never had a character in a way. So our equations have remained the same.”
While it was easy for him to have similar chemistry with not only Erica but the entire cast, things were not at all easy for Shaheer when he returned to Dev.
“There was no challenge in bringing the chemistry back as the whole team is the same. It was great to be back on the sets. It didn’t feel like we stopped shooting so that the comfort level was always there,” he added. He said, “Though it was a bit difficult for me to come back to Dev as it is a layered character and we are seeing a new side to him. Initially, I had to put in extra effort, but now I am finally getting it. Catch it again.”
pressure to live up to expectations
Erica feels some pressure as she reprises her role. This is because he is not in the stage of marriage in his real life.
“There’s definitely (a pressure). Because it’s new to me. Shaheer is married now, but I’m not. I don’t know a whole lot about the character. Still learning about it as I’ve got many. Things need to be taken care of. It’s been so many years that Dev and Sonakshi have been together. It’s easy to fall in love but it’s hard to keep it. So explore that period.”

While the actors are constantly looking to experiment with their roles, Erica and Supriya feel that the show’s ‘relatability factor’ is what sets it apart from others.
“The roles I’ve played so far were the closest to me because it’s relatable. I enjoy it. Playing something realistic is different. It’s satisfying. We find out different things to do and more when we get bored. Want to explore more. But because we’re so happy to be here we keep coming back to it,” explains Erica.
Echoing similar sentiments, Supriya adds, “We enjoy it because it’s real.”

“It’s not a remake but an extension of the story. The characters are the same but times have changed. These characters are something that the audience can resonate with. Something that we go through in day to day life. We can handle the tension in a relationship. It’s about the new season,” says Yash Patnaik, the producer of the show.
Elaborating further, Shaheer adds, “People will now see the evolution of the relationship between Dev and Sonakshi after being together for 10 years. Earlier, it was shown how, by being together, they became habitual to each other. But how has the dynamics changed and the challenges they are going to face in their relationship. So, it’s more complicated now.”
Is TRP rating a concern?
