Mumbai: For the first time in 23 months, the state did not record a single Covid-19 death on Wednesday. State surveillance in-charge Dr Pradeep Awate said, “We have recorded zero-death figure for the first time after April 1, 2020.
The new cases in the state came down to 544, taking the total number of cases to 78.66 lakh. No death was reported in the city for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday. The state had reported 1,049 deaths in June 2020, the peak of the first wave, which killed 985 at the height of the second wave on April 28, 2021. The death toll in the last few days till Wednesday was between two and eight, while the highest single day death toll was 103 on January 28 during the third wave.
Between February 23 and March 1, the overall infection growth rate in the city had come down to 0.01% and the doubling rate had increased to 5,405 days.
According to the weekly COVID-19 report presented to the state cabinet on Wednesday, all indicators were on the decline. The month-on-month death rate dropped by more than 50% between January and February. The state had added 1,524 deaths in January, which came down to 767 in February.
“The Covid wave has flattened in the state. New week after week cases of covid Also a decline in deaths has been recorded. Even the active cases are declining.” He said that the daily number of Kovid-19 cases in the state is likely to go below 500 in a few days.
There has also been a significant drop in the number of tests being conducted daily, officials said. Around 63,000 tests were conducted till March 1, while over one lakh tests were done 10 days ago.
Officials said the weekly test positivity rate has fallen to 1.2% and there is not a single district that has a test positivity rate above 4%, an indicator that the wave has flattened.
