Aurangabad : Pediatric covid cases within municipal limits AurangabadThe number of cases, during the ongoing third wave of COVID-19, increased to 515 from January 1 to Thursday, which is about 10% of the total active cases.
In the three different age groups, children aged six to 14 have the maximum number of 257 cases, followed by 209 in the 15 to 18 age group. A total of 49 children up to five years of age have also been infected with this infection.
Doctor Prabha KhairHead of Pediatric Section at Government Medical College and Hospital said covid Cases are higher in children during the third wave of the pandemic than in the previous two waves.
“Earlier it was estimated that during the third wave at least 10% of Covid infections would be pediatric cases. Like adults, the current cases of Kovid are coming out as mild infections in children. However, parents should take care of their children who have comorbid conditions,” she said.
Health officials have appealed to the doctors to follow the protocol prepared by the Center for the treatment of Kovid in children according to the severity of the disease.
According to the latest guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on January 17, the use of antiviral or monoclonal antibodies is not recommended for children below the age of 18 years, irrespective of the severity of the infection.
Common symptoms in children with COVID infection may include fever, cough, sore throat/sore throat, diarrhoea, body aches/headache and nausea/vomiting, loss of smell and/or taste, it said.
