Kovid-19 vaccination for 12-14 age group will start soon in India. Know what the NTAGI chief said

New Delhi: Here is the good news for the parents waiting to get jobs for their kids between the age group of 12-14. According to Dr NK Arora, Chairman, COVID-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization, vaccination is indicated for the age group from the end of February.

India on 3 January launched a COVID vaccination campaign for adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 years, giving them Bharat Biotech’s Covaccine.

According to the Times of India report, so far 3.31 crore children in the age group of 15 to 17 years have been vaccinated. The drive has so far offered around 45 per cent coverage.

“Our target is to cover all 7.4 crore adolescents in the 15-17 age group with the first dose by the end of January so that we can start immunization with the second dose from the beginning of February and finish the second dose by the end of February. We want to start immunization of 12 to 14 year olds by the end of February or the beginning of March,” Dr Arora told the publication.

Experts are of the opinion that children between the ages of 12 and 17 are very much like adults. Arora said that earlier the decision was taken in the interest of the juveniles of 15-17 group. After immunization of adolescents, the government will take a policy decision to include the next age group, which is 12-14, the chief said.

Dr NK Arora told the publication that the Kovid vaccination program for the age group of 12-14 is about to start from the end of February. Earlier also he had stressed that vaccination of teenagers is important because they are quite mobile as they go to school, college, visit and therefore pose a high risk of acquiring the infection, especially the fast-moving ones. omicron type of coronavirus.

In October, the subject expert committee on COVID-19 approved Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for emergency use for children in the age group of 2-18 years.

AIIMS Professor Dr Sanjay K Rai also claimed that the latest trials have shown that the safety and immunogenicity of Covaxin is almost the same in children as in adults above 18 years of age.

Meanwhile, 2,58,089 new cases have been registered in India in the last 24 hours. Active cases are 16,56,341.
