Korean survivalist drama ‘Squid Game’ will be the biggest Netflix show, surpassing Bridgerton

The Netflix original series, The Squid Game, is currently ranked number one in the worldwide streaming giant. The South Korean show debuted less than two weeks ago on the streaming service. The addictive K-drama is rapidly gaining in viewership globally, such that it can surpass current ranking record holder Bridgerton. Squid Game is tracking as its biggest show of all time, and is currently ranking as the number one show on the platform in several countries.

The violent survival drama Crossing Barriers of Language and Culture is currently ranked as number one in several countries since its premiere on September 17. Fueled by word of mouth, Squid Game is the first Korean original series to reach the top spot on Netflix, comparable to global hits including Ginny and Georgia, Shadow and Bone, and Who Killed Sarah?

Currently set in the real wealth inequality of South Korea, The Squid Game is complete with skilled cliffhangers. The show’s eclectic cast and inventive sets are what keep the audiences hooked and it needs to have a catchy appeal.

Backed by an ever-increasing subscriber base, Squid Game is soon going to be the biggest non-English-language Netflix show and probably top Bridgeton’s record 82 million. Bridgeton at the top of the streaming giant’s most popular shows is followed by Lupine Part 1, The Witcher Season 1, Sex/Life Season 1, and Stranger Things Season 3. There are likely to be no plans for a sequel season, with other popular shows like Money Heist and The Queen’s Gambit in the works.

The nine-part series is the first show from Korea to reach the top spot in the US and UK on the streaming platform. According to Deadline, “Squid Game will be our biggest non-English language show in the world, of course. It’s only for nine days, and it’s a pretty good one,” said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. Chances are this will be our biggest show till date.
