The government notice is for government and government-aided educational institutions and not private schools, their officials said on Thursday

Unlike government-aided and sponsored schools, private schools in the city have no plans to postpone summer vacation from May 2 after the West Bengal government’s notice as heat wave conditions are yet to prevail in the state.

The government notice is for government and government-aided educational institutions and not private schools, their officials said on Thursday.

Classes in all schools were suspended for a week from April 16, when temperatures soared to nearly 40 degrees Celsius in south Bengal, in response to a government directive issued keeping in mind students.

Many schools had then opted for the online mode.

However, the classes resumed as the weather conditions improved and the temperature dropped to around 35 degree Celsius in the city and South Bengal.

but the chief minister Mamata Banerjee Said on Wednesday that the summer vacation in government and state-aided schools notified earlier by the government would start from May 2.

Krishna Damani, vice-principal of South Point High School, told PTI that the in-person classes at the institute began on April 23 and will continue till May 12.

There is no possibility of postponing the classes before the date. He said that the summer vacation for both the classes would start from May 13 and would continue for a month.

“We closed the campus and went for online mode from April 16 to April 21 when the heat wave was on. As the temperature has gone down now, we feel that the classes can now continue till the scheduled date of summer vacation. We do not see the need to extend the dates.

La Martiniere’s secretary Supriyo Dhar also said that the holidays for the boys’ and girls’ sections would start from May 13. But the conditions are not that tough for the children now,” he said.

Madhumita Sengupta, principal of BDM International School, said, “We have no plans to postpone the summer vacation in the first week of May. However, if conditions get too hot and muggy for the kids, we can think of something for the primary section. In-person classes for secondary and higher secondary level will continue till the end of this month, when the vacation is about to begin.

A school education department official said the May 2 holiday notice was not mandatory for private schools, but it recommended them to extend the holiday days.
