Kolkata Rape-Murder: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar resigned from his post on Sunday to protest against West Bengal government’s mismanagement of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital.
He wrote a letter to the TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee, criticising the ‘unchecked domineering attitude of the corrupt and favoured few’ within the party.
Sircar expressed his disappointment over being unable to meet with CM Banerjee for months and criticized the inaction against corrupt officials.
He stated in the letter that he became more disillusioned as the TMC government appeared unconcerned about corruption and the aggressive tactics of certain leaders.
“I just cannot accept corrupt officers (or doctors) getting top postings”, Sircar said.
