Kolkata couple ends life after cancer treatment, eats up savings, family refuses help

In a tragic incident, a young couple in Kolkata allegedly ended their lives due to financial crunch as they were forced to shut down their business as the man was suffering from cancer.

The couple, who lived in an apartment in Kolkata’s Garia, were found dead at their home, within hours of police receiving an e-mail from them saying they were ending their lives, police said. Told.

The alleged suicide note by the couple states that they were forced to close their business and were ending their lives due to financial difficulties as the man was suffering from cancer, but the woman’s family refused to support them. Diya because they could not accept their daughter’s relationship.

It was later learned that the man had lost his job after being seriously injured in a road accident. He had earlier worked for a central investigative agency but was later diagnosed with leukemia. The woman worked in a salon and started living with the man against the consent of her family. Later both of them got married. However, the cost of cancer treatment consumed his savings and left him with a debt of around Rs 25 lakh.

The couple sent their belongings to the man’s friend and even asked for their bodies to be handed over to him. “He was battling cancer. He had a lot of debt to pay off. His family couldn’t stand by him. That’s why I want to use my friend’s property in the fight against cancer.”

With the permission of the police, the couple’s friend said that he wanted to sell his belongings and hand over the money to an organization that works for cancer patients. “Those who are not able to defeat cancer, let them at least be able to continue the fight against cancer,” he said.
