Early life and schooling

Nirmala Sitharaman was born on August 18, 1959 in Madurai to Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman. He was brought up in a Tamil Iyengar family and his father was a Indian Rail Staff. He completed his schooling from Madras and Tiruchirappalli.

Educational Qualifications

Nirmala Sitharaman obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1980 from Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirappalli. In 1984, she moved to Delhi to complete her Master of Arts and M.Phil in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He enrolled for Ph.D. program in economics with a focus on Indo-European trade, but later left the program and moved to London, due to which she could not complete her degree.

Career before joining politics

Nirmala Sitharaman used to work as a salesperson at home decor store Habitat in London. He also served as assistant to an economist at the Association of Agricultural Engineers (UK). He has also worked at PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) and BBC as a Senior Manager (Research and Development Department). World Service. She was also a member of the National Commission for Women.

political career

Nirmala Sitharaman also served as the Defense Minister of India. She was India’s second woman Defense Minister and the second woman Finance Minister after Indira Gandhi, and the first full-time woman minister to hold all those portfolios.
