Kitchen Hacks: How can you make ‘Makuti’, a traditional Bihar sweet with moong dal?

It is very tasty to eat and beneficial for health. The special thing about this dish is that it is made from moong dal and rice. Bihar’s famous Makuti is a good option for sweets. If guests are coming to your house and you don’t know what to make, try this quick recipe.

It is quite easy to make and does not require any special ingredients. Whenever you feel like eating something sweet, you can also try the famous Makuti.

Ingredients for making Makuti

1 liter milk
3 tbsp moong dal
1.5 tbsp rice
100 grams khoya
100 grams sugar
8-10 chopped almonds
8-10 cashews chopped
8-100 pistachios
4-5 cardamom powder
20-25 saffron threads

Makuti Recipe

1- First wash and soak the moong dal and rice in water for an hour.
2- When the moong dal and rice are cooked, take them out of the water and put them in the cooker, and cook till one whistle comes.
3- Now slow down the gas and let it cook for 5 minutes and then turn off the gas.
4- Remove the lid of the cooker and mash the lentils and rice well.
5- Now put 1 liter of milk in a pan and keep it for boiling.
6- Soak saffron threads in a spoonful of milk.
7- After the milk comes to a boil, cook it till it becomes slightly thick.
8- Now add mashed lentils and rice and cook the milk on low flame until it thickens.
9- Now mash khoya in it and mix saffron in milk. It is not necessary to put lost.
10- Now let the milk thicken. It will take about 15 more minutes.
11- When the milk becomes thick, add sugar and cardamom to it.
After cooking for 12 – 2-3 minutes, turn off the gas and take out the makuti in a bowl.
13- Now garnish with cashews, almonds, pistachios.
14- If you want, you can eat it hot, otherwise keep it in the fridge for a while so that it cools down.
15- If you are not using khoya to make makuti, then you can increase the quantity of milk.
