Kinnaur landslide: 3 more bodies recovered, death toll rises to 28. Shimla News – Times of India

An HRTC bus, two cars, a passenger vehicle and a truck were buried under the debris in a major landslide at Nigulsari on August 11.

Shimla: The death toll in the Nigulsari landslide incident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district has risen to 28, with the remaining 3 bodies recovered on Tuesday.
An HRTC bus (on its way from Rekong-Pio to Haridwar), two cars, a passenger vehicle (Tata Sumo) and a truck were buried under the debris by a major landslide at Nigulsari on August 11.
The Kinnaur district administration had released the details of 14 missing people in the landslide and all the 14 bodies of the missing have been recovered by the Search and Rescue (SAR) team.
The search and rescue operation began at 6 am on Tuesday and the team recovered three bodies, which are yet to be identified.
According to officials, the rescue team has informed about locating the bodies of 3 missing people. The rescue team said that it would take another 3 to 4 hours to bring them down.
Two bodies were recovered on Monday, while on Saturday six bodies, including that of a woman, were recovered by the search and rescue team.
The search operation is going on in the areas where 52 ITBP personnel, 56 NDRF personnel and 30 police personnel are involved.
Apart from recovering 28 bodies, search and rescue teams have already rescued 13 people. The rescued people were admitted to Community Health Center (CHC) Bhavnagar, from where two were sent to Shimla and Sujanpur for treatment.
Since the landslide incident on 11 August, search and rescue teams have recovered two cars (Alto/Accent – completely damaged) and found none inside the cars. The Bolero and its passengers are yet to be traced. Officials said the vehicle may have rolled over along with the debris.
A passenger vehicle (Tata Sumo) has been recovered in which 8 persons were found dead and their bodies were sent for postmortem at CHC Bhavnagar. The body of the deceased driver has been recovered from the truck that rolled down the river bank due to stones and boulders.
According to officials, NH-5 is ready for vehicular movement and police teams have been deployed on both sides of the sliding point to manage the traffic.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nichar has also banned all types of vehicles from 9 pm to 9 am at the incident site for the safety of the public.
