Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball compared Noa’s journey with the iconic heroes like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars’ characters.

The upcoming film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to launch another thrilling trilogy, following the success of previous three instalments which are hailed as some of the best trilogies of the past decade. Set 300 years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, the upcoming movie promises to open a new chapter and introduce new characters. While excitement is high among cinema enthusiasts, some feel that the film might just be a fan service. However, the filmmakers understand the importance of interesting characters and the newest member to join the franchise is Noa. In a recent interview with Total Films, director Wes Ball compared Noa’s journey with the iconic heroes like Frodo Baggins from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker.

According to Ball, Noa will undergo major transformation, who’ll evolve from a kind and gentle soul into something great. The filmmaker added, “Noa fits that archetype. He’s a new character we can identify with, appreciate, respect, because he’s incredibly kind and nice. But he is going to undergo this great transformation, or at least the beginnings of one in this movie, where that innocence is robbed of him a little bit.”

This is not the first time that Wes Ball has compared Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with the Star Wars saga. In a conversation with Empire Magazine, the filmmaker previously mentioned that the sequel will have “a little bit of Star Wars” essence, as they are introducing a “younger spirit” into the franchise. He sees the movie as a journey, similar to those in a galaxy far, far away, where the main character comes across various characters and challenges that lead to his growth.

As per the official synopsis, “Set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.”

Directed by Wes Ball, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes features Freya Allan, Dichen Lachman, Kevin Durand, Owen Teague, William H Macy and Peter Macon in key roles. The movie is scheduled to release on 10 May.
