Killer on the run for 28 years walks straight into arms of police after landing at Mumbai airport

Thane: In a major breakthrough, the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police have solved a 28-year-old five-murder case by nabbing one of the killers, who had absconded after a flight from Qatar landed in Mumbai. official said here on Friday. Disclosing the sensational case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Avinash Ambure said that the major breakthrough came when the Kashimira police reopened the forgotten case.

“On November 17, 1994, three persons attacked and brutally killed a 27-year-old woman, Chakramdevi Prajapati, and her four minor children – Pramod (5), Pinky (3), Pintu (2) and a three-month-old woman. The old kid,” Ambure told media persons.

Last year, one of the investigating officers, Pushpendra Thapa, received a tip-off that Chauhan was possibly living in a village near Varanasi and the team camped there for three weeks to gather information.

Ambure said, “Eventually, they found out that Chauhan was working in Gulf countries like Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Saudi Arabia for the last 15 years, and they managed to get his passport details and a look out circular was issued against him.” Did.”

They also learned that Chauhan used to visit his family in India every two years and the last time he came was in 2020.

Thereafter, teams of MBVV police with the help of Mumbai airport officials and other agencies lay in wait.

Late on Thursday night, the efforts bore fruit for Chauhan, who walked into the arms of police waiting patiently to nab him in the 28-year-old case. Ambure said he was produced before a Thane court and remanded in custody while further investigation is on to trace and arrest his two accomplices.
