Kiara Advani reveals she reached out to Dimple Cheema after Shershaah’s release

It’s never easy for actors to translate characters on screen, especially if it’s non-fiction. For Kiara Advani, who plays Dimple Cheema, Captain Vikram Batra’s love interest in the film Shershaah was completely overwhelming. From getting to know Dimple to meeting her in person and witnessing the account of eternal love, the actress was filled with awe.

Kiara too feels grateful for the unanimous love the film has received from the audience and critics alike. He is most happy with the reaction of the Kargil war hero’s family. Talking to Mid-Day, he said that the biggest win for the team is that Batra appreciated the biopic. Kiara, who messaged Dimple after the release, said, “It is an emotional film for him (Dimple). I just want to respect his privacy. After the film, when I met Captain Batra’s family, they said, I am just like him. It moved me to tears. I know the songs have touched him deeply. He should be proud that people are liking the story.”

After the death of Captain Batra, Dimple decided not to get married. Kiara could hardly have found this kind of love, which was so rare. She said, “I have seen examples of this in my parents and now in Dimple’s love story. This is aspirational for a generation like ours, who is more agile.”

The success of the film reaffirmed Kiara’s faith in the selection of characters. He said that after the release of the 2019 film Kabir Singh, he put his effort every day to bring Preeti’s character to the top. Two years later, Dimple has done this for the actress and she thinks it is a win.

In her first interview to DNA, Kiara said that when the Kargil war happened she was very young and did not know about it so deeply. He said that after meeting Dimple, he understood the emotional turmoil of being in a relationship with an officer who served the country. As a civilian, being a companion of a war hero is unimaginable.

Shershaah premiered last week on Amazon Prime Video. The film is based on the journey of Captain Vikram Batra, who sacrificed his life while serving his country during the Kargil War in 1999. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
