RANCHI: Acting on a tip-off, the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and the Khunti police have nabbed a People Liberation Front of India (PLFI) extremist identified as Awadhesh Jaiswal alias Chuha alias Sardar from the Murhu police station area. Jaiswal is considered as the right hand of PLFI supremo Dinesh Gope.
Jaiswal is also a central committee member of the outlawed group and was given the responsibility of building the organization in Bihar. The Jharkhand government had announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head.
A carry bag, Aadhaar and PAN cards, PLFI pamphlets and receipts, 15 mobile phones and other articles were recovered from him.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Khunti SP Ashutosh Shekhar said, “We learn from different sources that Jaiswal was hiding in Murhu. A joint team comprising the ATS and the district police was formed to verify the input and take necessary action. The team arrested him from the residence of a former PLFI member. Jaiswal has confessed to involvement in several crimes committed under different police stations.”
Police said Jaiswal is accused in around 40 cases involving murder and attempt to murder registered with police stations of Ranchi, Khunti, Hazaribag and West Singhbhum districts. The cases are registered under different sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Crime Law Amendment Act.
He was produced before a local court on Saturday and forwarded to jail. Police are likely to take him into custody for interrogation in connection with extremist incidents and for collecting clues regarding Dinesh Gope.
Jaiswal has also served imprisonment at Beur jail in Patna and Simdega jail in connection with several cases. Inspector general (operations) Amol Homkar described the arrest as a big achievement for the police.
