Varanasi: Union Minister of State for MSME, Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma Said that Varanasi has emerged as the hub of Khadi activities in the last few years.
After inaugurating the 15 day exhibition of Khadi products organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVICVerma was addressing a conference of artisans from 12 districts of eastern UP on Sunday at the Rudraksh International Convention Center.
Appreciating KVIC for organizing the exhibition and organizing the artisans’ conference, he said, “Varanasi, over the years, has emerged as a center of various Khadi activities. Almost all the activities like spinning, weaving, beekeeping and pottery Rural and traditional arts have been promoted in a big way here.”
Verma said that these initiatives are creating self-employment for the artisans and making them ‘Atmanirbhar’ (self-reliant), this Khadi exhibition will also provide a big platform to the artisans to market their products and increase their income.
KVIC President VK Saxena in his address said that the State Level Khadi Exhibition in Varanasi is an expression of the commitment of the Khadi artisans. Atmanirbhar Bharat.
“KVIC has set up a large number of Khadi Institutions, PM Employment Generation Program Units and Scheme of Fund for Upliftment of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) clusters to strengthen traditional arts and empower local artisans.
This exhibition is a unique platform where people from Varanasi and adjoining areas can buy handmade Khadi products from Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Punjab, Uttarakhand and other states. This will be a big boost to the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative and will also promote Khadi,” said Saxena.
Varanasi, which is also the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency Narendra ModiHe has initiated several activities to promote Khadi and support artisans, he said, adding that at present 134 Khadi Institutes are functioning in Varanasi where women constitute about 80% of the total workforce.
According to Saxena, the purpose of the artisans’ conference was to enable them to exchange ideas on their products and work towards popularizing the benefits of KVIC’s schemes.
The state-of-the-art Khadi exhibition is showcasing exquisite handcrafted products from 20 Indian states including UP, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Leh-Ladakh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal and others across 105 stalls. .
Saxena said that many Khadi institutions, PMEGP units and several SFURTI groups from different states have also set up their stalls.
A range of excellent Khadi products which includes premium high altitude honey from Jammu and Kashmir, a wide variety of Kashmiri and Rajasthani woolen shawls, muslin cloth from West Bengal, a variety of silk fabrics from West Bengal and Bihar, Koti shawls from Punjab, leather products are included. Terracotta pottery from Kanpur, Rajasthan and Uttar PradeshThe widely acclaimed hand woven carpets from Mirzapur and Prayagraj are the biggest attractions in the exhibition.
This is the second such exhibition organized by KVIC in Varanasi since the Covid-19 lockdown.
