Core sector growth was 9.5 percent in April 2022

Output growth of eight core infrastructure sectors slowed to a six-month low of 3.5 per cent in April 2023 due to a decline in output of crude oil, natural gas, refinery products and electricity.

In April 2022, the core sector’s growth was 9.5 percent, while in March 2023, the major infra sector registered a growth rate of 3.6 percent. The growth rate in April 2023 is the lowest since October 2022, when the sectors grew by 0.7 per cent.

According to official data released on Wednesday, the growth rate of coal production slowed down to 9 per cent in April this year.

Fertilizer production increased by 23.5 percent, steel by 12.1 percent and cement production by 11.6 percent in April.
