Ketki Dave Wants Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Reunion on Show’s 21st Anniversary

Ekta Kapoor’s show Kyun Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi proved to be one of her most successful daily soap operas. The show was special in many ways. It took the kitchen politics of almost all Indian joint families on TV. Har Ghar was able to resonate with the story and make it a hit show of its time.

Later, when the culture of memes entered the Indian soil, the theme song of the serial Kyun Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the concept of plastic surgery and reincarnation was widely ridiculed online. Even after many years, people are aware of this historical show in some way or the other. Ekta Kapoor established Mihir and Tulsi as cultural icons and gave flight to the careers of many artists.

And one of them was Ketki Dave, who played the role of Daksha in the show. Dave’s character was manipulative and his aa-ra-ra brought him fame. As the show completes 21 years on 03rd July, Dave talks to Indian Express about the daily soap.

Dave revealed that initially, he had declined the show as it was a negative role and it took time, but the makers were adamant on onboarding him to play the typical Gujarati character. Later, it was Apara Mehta who convinced Dave to be a part of the show.

Recalling her ‘Aa Ra Ra Ra’ dialogue, the actress revealed that initially the script used to have it once, but with time, the frequency increased. When Dave reached out to the writers, he revealed that the dialogue was working wonders among the audience. The actress recalled that wherever she went, people used to greet her with dialogues. Dave had started enjoying the character, having agreed to play the role at Apara’s request. He brought many changes in the ‘Aa Ra Ra Ra’ dialogue and won millions of hearts.

Comparing the present scenario of the sets with the past, Dave said that nowadays people have their own room and are more professional. She revealed that earlier there was a make-up room and the shooting used to happen in Balaji’s house. Dave said that, unlike today, there was no competition at the time, and hot blood was clearly visible on the screen.

Suggesting that the daily soap should come with a second season, Dave said, “I think Kyunki should come with a second season. It was probably the only show that didn’t have a distinctive protagonist and antagonist. Also brought value to life on screen. Yes, it will have to be modernized after 21 years but if Ekta does it I am sure it will work. I don’t know if I will be able to be a part of it as Daksh is too old by now And no one would want to see her as an old lady (laughs). I think as a viewer, I would be really excited about it.”

He added that after the Friends reunion, the audience can also think about the Kyunki reunion, where the actors can reunite in their old avatars.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi also starred Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay, Apara Mehta among others in lead roles. Inder Kumar and Ronit Roy also joined the cast later on.
