Thiruvananthapuram: As part of raising the guard against COVID-19, the state government has ordered the introduction of “special intensive stringent lockdown restrictions” in urban and panchayat wards with significant spread of weekly infection population ratio (WIPR) above 10.
The DDMA will notify such areas on a weekly basis and give adequate publicity through websites and other media, a government order signed by Chief Secretary VP Joy said. “The district collectors will further notify micro-containment zones and enforce lockdown restrictions in them as per the extant guidelines.
Contact tracing and quarantine will also be monitored and strengthened in all districts. A decision in this regard was taken in the Kovid-19 review meeting chaired by the CM. Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday.
Currently, strict lockdown restrictions are imposed in places where WIPR is above 8. As on Sunday, there are 2,507 wards spread over 678 local bodies where WIPR is above 8. The state recorded 19,653 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, of which 13,295 samples were tested in 1 last 24 hours. The state recorded 152 Covid deaths, taking the toll to 23,591. At the same time, 26,711 patients have recovered from the disease.
Ernakulam The highest number of cases were reported with 2,810. At present 5,12,854 persons are under observation across the state.
89% of the vaccinated population receives at least one dose
The state’s Immunization Review Report on Sunday indicated that at least 89 percent of people of the vaccinated age had received at least one vaccine dose. About 37% have received both doses.
