Meanwhile, a petition was filed before the Advocate General seeking his consent to move the Kerala High Court for criminal contempt against Thangal over his derogatory remarks against the judges of the State High Court. During the march, Thangal said, “The courts are now easily shocked. High Court judges are shocked to hear the slogans of our Alappuzha march, do you know the reason? The reason is that their innerwear is saffron. Since it is saffron, they will heat up very quickly. You will feel jealous and it will bother you.

The petitioner, who is a High Court lawyer, submitted that it has now become a practice among politicians to attack the judiciary and judges for praise and political gains. The petition said, “If such acts go unpunished and without punishment, it will shake the confidence of the general public in the institution of judiciary in the country. As an advocate, an officer of the Court, the applicant feels that it is his duty to pursue this course.”

To file criminal contempt, a private party needs the permission of the Advocate General.

The petition states, “Yahya Thangal has committed criminal contempt of the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala under the Contempt of Court Act, 1971 and is liable to be punished for the same. Therefore, the applicant is humbly requesting the Advocate General to initiate action punishable under section 12 of the contempt of court for committing criminal contempt against Yahya Thangal, as per section 15 of the Contempt of Court Act, 1971. Please give their consent in writing. Courts Act, 1971.”
