Kerala Police summons Malayalam director Rafi for interrogation, second day’s questioning of Dileep in the actress assault case

The Crime Branch of Kerala Police has summoned Malayalam director Rafi for questioning at the Crime Branch office in Kalamassery, where they have been interrogating actor Dileep for the past six hours in connection with the assault on a Malayalam actress. In the case of plotting to attack the investigating officers, the interrogation of Dileep and other accused started on the second day today at the Crime Branch office.

The Kerala High Court on Saturday directed Dileep and four of his associates, including his brother, brother-in-law and two friends, to appear before the Kerala Crime Branch for three days starting Sunday for questioning. The actor along with his brother and brother-in-law arrived in the same car at 8.45 am for questioning.

The inquiry is being led by Crime Branch Superintendent of Police C. Mohanchandran.

The court, in its interim order on Saturday, said the accused should not be arrested till January 27 and they can be interrogated for three days on January 23 from 9 am to 8 pm.

It also directed the prosecutor to submit a report on the questioning on January 27.

Apart from Dileep, his brother Anoop, brother-in-law Suraj, his associate Appu alias Krishnadas and close friend Byju Chengmanad are being questioned.

Recently, a former close associate of Dileep, Balachandrakumar, a film director who split from the actor, revealed that Dileep had conspired to teach the investigating officer a “lesson”.

He had alleged that Dileep, while watching a YouTube video of the then Superintendent of Police AV George in connection with the case, had told the officer to “teach a lesson” and involve miscreants for it. According to Balachandran, Dileep’s associates had said that he would have to spend Rs 1.5 crore for this.

Balachandrakumar gave his statement in the magistrate’s court along with some audio recordings at Dileep’s residence.
