Kerala government announces Rs 2 crore reward for Indian Olympic team goalkeeper Sreejesh

The Kerala government on Wednesday announced a reward of Rs 2 crore and job promotion for them. PR SreejeshGoalkeeper of the Indian men’s hockey team that won the historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian hockey team finished on the podium in the Olympics after a span of 41 years.

Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman made the announcement at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram after the cabinet meeting.

The minister said 33-year-old Sreejesh, who is currently deputy director (sports) in the general education department of the state government, would be promoted as joint director (sports).

Sreejesh, a native of Kizhakkambalam in Ernakulam district, was given a rousing welcome at the Cochin International Airport earlier this week. Sreejesh was accompanied by sports minister and MLA Anwar Sadat, the opposition’s representative in an open jeep from the airport to his residence.

The minister also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh each to all Malayalee sportspersons participating in the Olympics this year.
