Kerala: Experimental ‘street’ tourism to be started in 7 districts Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

Tapuram: Kerala Tourism Will soon launch the ‘Street’ project at select locations in seven districts. Street is an acronym for Durable, Tangible, Responsible, experiential, Ethnic, tourist centers. Taking tourism to the unemployed rural hinterlandThis initiative will help the visitors to experience the diversity of life and culture of the local people.
In the first phase, the project will be implemented at Kadalundi in Kozhikode, Thrithala and Patithara in Palakkad, Pinarayi and Ancharakkandi in Kannur, Maravanthuruthu and Manchira in Kottayam, Valiyaparamba in Kasaragod, Kanthallur in Idukki and Chekady in Wayanad. Envisioned by the Responsible Tourism Mission, the project is inspired by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) slogan ‘Tourism for Inclusive Development’. The project will be officially launched on Sunday in Kozhikode.
Green Street, Cultural Street, Village Life Experience Street, Experimental Tourism Street, Agri-Tourism Street, Water Street and Art Street are the themes that are planned as part of the project. These roads will be tailored to the specifications of each of these places and will focus on experiential tourism.
Tourism Minister PA Mohammad Rias said that the project offers a huge potential for development in the tourism sector and will bring about a significant change. “The aim is to present the unique identity of our state to the passengers. This will promote mutually beneficial organic linkages between tourism development and the normal life of the people in the state,” he claimed.
Dr V Venu, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Tourism, said that the project is a model for decentralized tourism development, and will help in mainstreaming the little-known rural destinations and generate more employment.
