Kerala Congress chief says party will talk to Shashi Tharoor on remarks in support of CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Congress’s Kerala unit is outraged over party MP Shashi Tharoor’s remarks in support of Chief Minister and Left leader Pinarayi Vijayan. Congress state president K Sudhakaran has said that the party will talk to the MP about his remarks. Tharoor said during the inauguration of a mall in his Lok Sabha constituency Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, “When I am saying a good word for the Chief Minister’s efforts to bring development, there is no need to see politics in it. I stand for development.”

When MPs from the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) signed a letter against the Silver Line project (semi-high-speed rail project between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod), Tharoor had sought additional time to look into the project. The MLA had said that by not signing the joint memorandum, he was not supporting the project, but was trying to study the matter further.

Against this background, Tharoor’s remarks sparked controversy and the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president was reacting to it.

Sudhakaran also said that there was nothing wrong in supporting the Chief Minister in the matter of development.

Meanwhile, former KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran has said that the party high command should immediately intervene in the matter, citing the Silver Line issue.
