Kentucky Resident’s ‘Nothing’ Order Costs Rs 1,600

Opting for online food ordering streamlines menu browsing and customization. Frequently, we augment our orders with additional toppings or ingredients, such as extra patties, tomatoes, pickles, onions, or an additional cheese slice, particularly with burgers. However, a man from Kentucky, USA, took a unique approach by ordering ‘nothing’ from a prominent fast-food chain, yielding amusing results.

On May 19, an individual known as Greg online conducted an ’empty’ experiment, fulfilling the curiosity of numerous customers by ordering a burger barren of all toppings through a popular delivery app.

Greg explained that he requested a triple cheese burger, typically containing ketchup, mustard, pickle, diced onions, three beef patties, cheese, and salt, between buns. However, Greg opted out of all the ingredients, including the bun.

This customization amounted to $5.39 (Rs 450) on the online delivery app. Yet, with the addition of the $3 (Rs 250.49) service fee, 42 cents (Rs 35.07), and an $11 (Rs 918.45), the total bill skyrocketed to $19.81 (Rs 1654.05). He ended up paying nearly $20 (around Rs 2,000) for a burger without any toppings.

On X, he posted, ‘I requested a triple cheese burger, fully customized. Let’s see what unfolds.’ In a subsequent tweet, he expressed concern about potential errors.

Updating the situation, a delivery person named Dan was tasked with delivering ‘nothing,’ reconfirming the order with Greg. He clarified, ‘A cheeseburger stripped of all toppings, bun, and patty. So you’ll receive an empty package. Is that acceptable?’ Greg responded, ‘Perfect, thanks.’

He shared an image of the delivery: a burger box within a brown bag, containing nothing. His caption humorously exclaimed, ‘Feast time.’ However, it turned out the fast-food joint erred, providing a McCrispy box instead. Greg lamented, ‘I ordered a triple burger, not a McCrispy. Somehow, they still botched it (no blame on you, Dan).’
