The letter, written by Jayant Choudhary to its MLAs, is being seen as the party’s Dalit outreach in the western part of the state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Ahead of the 2024 general elections in what can be termed as Dalit outreach, Chaudhary Jayant-led Rashtriya Lok Dal has asked its MLAs to spend 35 per cent of their LAD funds for the welfare of Dalits. The party has asked its MLAs to raise issues related to Dalits and backwards in the assembly.

In a letter addressed to RLD MLA and Legislature Party leader Rajpal Balyan, the RLD chief wrote, “A social reform and a positive change is not possible until the benefits of government schemes reach the weaker and deprived section of the society. , That is why I have thought that our MLAs should spend 35 per cent of their development funds on the welfare of Dalits.

The RLD chief has also written that matters related to Dalits and backwards should be raised in the assembly. At the same time, RLD MLAs should keep an eye on any kind of atrocities on Dalits and ensure all possible help to get them justice.

The letter, written by the RLD chief to his MLAs, is being seen as the party’s Dalit outreach in the western part of the state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The RLD had contested the 2022 UP Assembly elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party and won eight seats. At present, every MLA or MLC gets Rs 5 crore every year to spend on the development of their respective constituencies. In the 2022 UP assembly elections, the RLD undertook a ‘Nyay Yatra’ in an effort to reach out to the Dalits and backward people in the state.

Of the eight MLAs, RLD has only one MLA Anil Kumar from Purkaji reserve seat. Anil Kumar won the seat by defeating BJP candidate Pramod Utwal by a margin of around 6400 votes.
