KCR targets Center over Krishna water issue, slams Andhra for ‘dadagiri’

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday slammed the central government’s attitude towards opposing Telangana, hitting out at the Center for failing to address the Krishna controversy and issuing a gazette notification.

He also hit out at the Andhra Pradesh government for resorting to ‘dadagiri’ over the controversial Krishna river water sharing issue. With Minister Jagadish Reddy announcing relaxation for Nagarjuna Sagar section, KCR has taken a dig at the Center for opposing Telangana over the water dispute. “We will take a judicious share of the water and fight at any level,” he declared.

The CM said the Center was coming in the way of irrigation projects and power generation on the Krishna river. He also said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is trying to dominate the issue. “The AP government is doing ‘dadagiri’ and we are ready to deal with it,” he reiterated.

His remarks came at a time when the Center and the Krishna Board had stopped irrigation projects work and power generation following a complaint by the AP government.

Telangana opposed the Pothireddypadu and Rayalaseema projects for illegal construction. The Center as well as the Krishna Board have asked the AP government to stop these projects.

The Andhra Pradesh counterpart is opposing Telangana over irrigation projects and power generation.

“Apart from building illegal projects, the Jagan government is raising objections to our projects,” he lamented.

Expressing his displeasure in Parliament, the Union Jal Shakti Minister said that both the states were violating the norms which the gazette should follow.

The Center directed both the states to check illegal structures after complaining to each other.

Recently, the KCR government in a letter to the Center said that it has no objection to power generation at the Srisailam project in Andhra Pradesh.

The Centre, through the gazette, mandated both the states to follow its instructions as officials would take a call on the Krishna and Godavari Jal Boards for distribution and use of water. Telangana opposed the Center in this regard and vowed to fight it legally.

KCR said Telangana would get its share of water from Krishna despite opposition from the Center and Andhra Pradesh.

KCR announced Rs 150 crore for the development of Nagarjuna Sagar section. Ministers Jagadish Reddy, Sukhendra Reddy, MLA Bhagat and others were present.
